FAQ
Q. How long will it take to earn my MBA at the University of Tennessee?
A. You will earn your MBA is just 12 months by enrolling in the Physician Executive MBA program. It is the only one-year-long internationally accredited MBA exclusively for physicians. Primarily, this is accomplished by very careful selection of academic content and cross-functional integration of the learning objectives. The program also utilizes advanced distance learning technologies and discrete residential periods to maximize the value of the time you are investing in your education.
Q. Is the program fully accredited? and by whom?
A. We have earned full accreditation from AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (formerly the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business). AACSB International accreditation assures quality and promotes excellence and continuous improvement in undergraduate and graduate education for business administration and accounting. The University of Tennessee is also fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

We will notify you concerning acceptance within 10 days of receiving all required application materials.
Q. When do classes begin?
A. Classes begin each January - usually the first week. Graduation is typically held the second week in December.
Q. How is the program scheduled?
A. The program is scheduled to remove the time and distance barriers found in location-centric programs. The program delivers a world-class MBA education using three primary delivery modes: residential, synchronous, and asynchronous. There are four residential periods during the year. Each is one-week long and is completed on campus. Between residential periods you will attend a weekly synchronous cyberclass on Saturday mornings. During the cyberclass you learn and participate in an electronic classroom - you see and hear the faculty member's lesson and may converse with classmates and the faculty member. Unlike a location-centric class, you can attend the cyberclass from just about anywhere you are able to connect to the Internet. During the week, you complete directed studies either individually or as a team. There are no mandatory classes scheduled during the week, so you have significant degrees of freedom to schedule your study and assignment time.
Q. I have a busy professional schedule. How much of a weekly time commitment is there?
A. The faculty estimates that, on average, you will spend 24 hours each week studying, preparing assignments, and attending the weekly cyberclass. Since the program leverages the power of distance education, the program is designed to have a minimal impact on your career. Indeed, one of the design criteria was to deliver an exceptional MBA without forcing participants to place their careers on hold.
Q. In medical school if you missed a class, it was really bad news. What happens to me if I miss a cyberclass?
A. Although the faculty expect that you will attend each cyberclass, we recognize that you may miss one or two due to illness or professional responsibilities. To address this issue, we developed a delayed participation option. This option allows you participate in the class by viewing a replay using your computer. This way you aren't placed at a severe disadvantage for missing a session.
Q. I'm not exactly a "techie", does the program include any computer training?
A. We believe technology is both a tool and a friend. The program provides a supportive and well-rounded roster of computer skill building opportunities. These activities are taught by instructors or physicians who understand your needs and tailor the lessons to help you build both confidence and skills. We encourage attendance at our free "Computer Boot Camp" held just before the program kicks-off in January. We also devote considerable time during the residence periods and throughout the year during optional CME sessions to help you become very adept at using the computer.
Q. What if something goes wrong with my computer or what if I need help with a software application?
A. You are never more than an email or telephone call away from support. We provide hardware and software support for the mandated computer and software you will use in your studies. When you need help, we will be there to back you up and help solve the problem.
Q. Is financial aid available?
A. Financial aid is available to qualified applicants. Applicants may apply for Federal Stafford Loans GradPLUS, and external loans such as the MBA Tuition Loan offered through Sallie Mae. The program is recognized by the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs. To get more details, click here.
